Ethereum Foundation 2025 Internship Applications are Open! both of them

research and development Teams have open positions. Applications close on 9 December 2024.

The Ethereum Foundation is running its first formal summer internship program in 2025 with the aim of nurturing the next generation of Ethereum developers and researchers.

Interns will work alongside EF teams and, with the help of dedicated mentors, contribute directly to core projects in key areas such as protocol security, account abstraction, scaling research, customer development, and more. For example, a previous intern worked on MEV homogeneity research Before eventually joining EF full time.

Who is this for?

Applicants must be Familiar with the Ethereum protocol Available to work full time. If they are currently at university, they must be advanced in their studies. Applicants must have a demonstrated interest in the specialty of the team they are applying to work with.

program

Selected interns will be assigned a short-term project and a mentor, and should expect to work somewhat independently. Interns can choose to either work remotely, or at one of EF’s offices, in Boulder (USA) or Berlin (Germany). In addition, trainees will be invited to attend a personal meeting in the summer.

EPF for training

The training is geared toward those available for a specific “summer” commitment with a general skill set and a desire to learn how to apply that skill set to the Ethereum domain. On the other hand, there is Ethereum Protocol Fellowship It is a six-month program that assumes advanced knowledge and a desire to work full-time in Ethereum.

Application process

Applications are live and will close on December 9, 2024. Initial offers will be followed by formal interviews, and the notification process is expected to be completed by January 10.

The duration of the program will be approximately 12 weeks with flexibility in start and end dates depending on university schedules.

Guidance teams

  1. Protocol security – The protocol security research team works to protect the integrity of Ethereum. Through coordination, careful code reviews, research, advanced tool development, and realistic simulations, we focus on securing the network and its critical components. Our practical approach includes managing a bug bounty program, continuously monitoring the network, and collaborating with customer teams. We are committed to identifying and mitigating risks to the Ethereum mainnet. verify Protocol security readme file

Preferred skills: Cybersecurity lessons or experience

  2. Strong incentive package The Robust Incentives Group is a research team dedicated to studying the mechanism design and cryptoeconomics of Ethereum. Our work charts all the ways incentives directly or indirectly impact users and protocol stakeholders in Ethereum. Where possible, we propose mechanisms to restore incentive alignment and improve the system. Our methods range from formal analysis to data science and simulation, and we engage academic and public audiences in diverse forms of scholarship, publications, and conversations. Preferred skills: Familiarity with RIG initiatives, previous work, or writings in mechanism design or economic research

  3. Portal network The gateway network is a new network design for Ethereum that aims to solve the problem of data availability for “light” nodes without the need for trust or additional pressure on full nodes, by sharing the necessary data in small chunks across the network. verify Explanation of ethereum.orgconversations from DEFCON C 2024, DEFCON Bogotá 2022the Network specifications.

Preferred skills: Computer science lessons, some rust knowledge

  4. a test – The EEST project is responsible for the benchmark tests of the Ethereum protocol, which all clients use to detect consensus issues during new hard fork implementations and regressions. The team also takes care of maintaining and improving the necessary tools, frameworks, documentation and guidelines to make it easier for customer developers to use the tests, which includes EEST, the legacy Ethereum/tests repository, as well as integration tests in the form of various Hive simulations. verify Devcon SEA Dialogue 2024 In Eastern Europe.

Preferred skills: Test frameworks (cell) and methodologies (fuzzing and simulation)

  5. Sea snake – The EELS project is responsible for the main reference specification for the Ethereum Protocol written in Python, which aims to replace the Yellow Paper specification and be a crucial adjunct to the EIP process in order to provide a model framework for new updates. verify Devcon SEA Dialogue 2024 On ils.

Preferred skills: Writing specifications, technical documentation and formal verification

  6. Get – Geth (go-ethereum) is a Go implementation of Ethereum – a gateway to the decentralized web. Geth has been a core part of Ethereum since the beginning. Geth was one of the original implementations of Ethereum making it the most solid and battle-tested client. Geth is an Ethereum execution client which means it handles transactions, deployment and execution of smart contracts and has a built-in computer known as an Ethereum Virtual Machine. Running Geth alongside a consensus client turns your computer into an Ethereum node. You can find more information about Geth website.

    Preferred skills: Go, devp2p

  7. Account stripping – the aa The team is focused on development, growth and coordination efforts related to account divestiture and chain divestiture, which began via ERC-4337 standardand continuing through additional standards and protocol level changes on L1 as well as L2s. The team is responsible for the research and development of various product components and standards Account extractionString abstraction and communication via L2. It also supports entities in the ecosystem that rely on these standards, while advocating for their general adoption in the space through education, conferences, grants, and other growth strategies.

Preferred skills: Hardness, EVM, ERC4337, wallet design

  8. specialist -If you have a specific project in mind that deals with the public Ethereum governance process or another underlying protocol project, suggest it!

skills: This role is intended for exceptional individuals who have specific projects in mind and have intimate knowledge of the Ethereum governance process.
