Over three hundred most experienced world-related crime investigators from 40 countries recently gathered in the Hague on the fifth Europol Conference on virtual currencies. Tim Elliptic was lucky to join and had the opportunity to demonstrate our Elliptic Forensics Cryptula investigations Software.

All signs point to the support of the crypto by law enforcement, along with increasing adoption tools for the analysis of the blocks to detect criminal activities. Here is a detailed review of our three key exposures from the conference.

1. Crime Fighters ♥ Bitcoin, also.

Most of those present were law enforcement agents who have doubled Bitcoin enthusiasts, and they often held in their free time, miners or traded crypts. They do not see encrypted as inherently illicit and want to see how technology flourishes and achieve mainstream adoption. They believe that their work on reducing the illegal use of these currencies is critical for their further growth.

Europol even has its own Bitcoin address: 1europolm6bv2lidck3e9kdcose6dqviyq.

A transaction From this address, it was used to install the conference speaker certificate in Bitcoin Blockchain.

2. The stock exchanges take the AML seriously and cooperate with law enforcement authorities.

The conference was present over a dozen cryptovalut stock market, and many maintained presentations on their efforts to adhere to regulations. Encouraged by improved regulations, stock exchanges are increasingly cooperating with law enforcement authorities to provide them with the information they need to perform criminal activities, simultaneously defend the privacy of their users and respecting data protection laws. The compliance is now visible as a competitive advantage, not as a burden.

One experienced investigator explained that every successful case of his company involving crypto depends on the cooperation of one or more cryptodulut.

3. Blockchain analysis helps to detect and solve crimes.

The analysis of crypto transactions is now an important tool for detecting and conducting a wide range of criminal activities, from RansomWARE to drug trafficking.

Using transaction screenshot software (such as Elliptic AML) by the Crypto Stock Exchange allows them to reveal whether their users perform transactions with illegal entities, such as DarkNet Markets.

This information is used to warn the law enforcement authorities through reports of suspicious activities and initiating criminal investigations. Monitoring and attributing to criminal activity criminals (for example using Elliptic Forensics) has also become a key part of the cybercrime investigator tools, providing intelligence and evidence that support criminal prosecution.
