Bitcoin Fog administrator Roman Sterlingov was convicted in US federal court of misdemeanors in connection with the operation of the bitcoin mixer.
Jurors found the Russian-Swedish national guilty of conspiracy to launder money, money laundering, operating an unlicensed money transmission business and money transmission without a license. The mixer was used to launder tens of millions of dollars worth of bitcoins from illegal activities.
Matt Price, Elliptic’s Head of Public Sector Engagement, was the lead investigator in the Bitcoin Fog case and arrested Roman Sterlingov in April 2021 when he arrived in the US from Moscow.
